sweet Farewells

Sharon Ray Nieghbarger Singleton passed away peacefully in her sleep early this morning, November 11 2009. A very significant day. Veteran's day was always very special to her. She always made a point to take flowers to the graves. Her husband, Midge, and Ed were all veterans. So was her father in law, and her daughter in law's father.
She was married on Veteran's day, as was her mother.
So it was very sweet indeed that she chose to hang on long enough to leave us on this special day of remembrance.
Thank you Sharon, for your example of love and unselfish service to others. We love you and we will miss you very much.

Friends

It has been amazing to watch the friends coming by. Sharon has touched so many lives.! The neighbor to the left, the neighbor to the right. The neighbor down the street. The neighbor down the other street. A friend from the past. A distant cousin. Friend of the friend. Each one - so touched with sadness at what she has been hit with. Each one so filled with love at all the memories of love she shared with them.

I asked Rhonda from the Blue Moon, how many people she delivered Christmas treats to, and was overwhelmed by the numbers. 40 plates with specific names, more than 100 total, easily! Each plate made with love for a friend that had touched her life. Each plate representing a person who has a tender spot in their heart for our Sharon.

Sharon, we love you!

Graduation Day

When I graduated highschool, grandma took me on a cruise. I got to pick anywhere and I chose Mexico! Mainly because she had some great history with Catalina and it was just going to be me and her. It was so much fun! The first night everyone was in the grand hall screaming out where they were from and the cruise director jokingly asked if anyone was from Utah. I was in the moment like everyone else and screamed "I am!" It was so embarrassing for her especially when they asked if I was Mormon and I answered energetically that "I totally was!" (and the only one) Turns out: not so cool to be Mormon on a cruise, but everyone's interest was piqued and I was barraged with questions the whole week. I remember Grandma just being really patient with me answering questions all week. She teased me in good humor and visa versa on being stuck with the Mormon though I am pretty sure and she agreed that I looked more drunk than anyone else cause I couldn't get used to the boat all week and I am high-spirited most the time anyways! It was so much fun, and I will never forget that trip! All my friends went on a huge senior trip to NYC, but I couldn't afford it, so this was unbelievable! Thank you Grandma!

Love From Australia

Dear Grandma Singleton

I’m afraid a letter in the mail may take too long to travel from Australia so I thought I’d send a note with my mom when she comes to visit. I’m torn in what to say as I sit in a library on the other side of the world and think about how much I love you and am grateful for everything that you have done for me.

I’m sorry I am not there with you and the family. You may not understand the influence and impression you have left with me over the years because of the small number of visits and reunions. But I have so many memories that I share with you. You have the best sense of humor and have got to be the coolest nan. Even when I run to the other side of the world I get the ever anticipated Christmas package from Grandma Singleton.

I will always remember the gifts, especially the guitar strap with my name embroidered on it. And the trips to your house through the rolling hills in north California.

Right now I’m a missionary and am doing the best to help as many people as I can and I want you to know that you helped me get here and someday I hope to repay you and share with you the joy that I’m experiencing. We all love you so much and are grateful for son you raised all though he was a bit of nut. Don't worry we'll always remind him of that! Again I can't express the gratitude I have for EVERYTHING you have done. I love you Grandma Singleton!

Love your Grandson,

Elder Jacob Wade Singleton

Firsts

When we were engaged, Sharon tried not to look excited, but she couldn't fool anyone. :-) She threw a bridal shower for me and invited all her friends as well as the whole ward that Michael attended. It was beautiful! She went all out! I still remember the incredible cake, and the tasty punch with fruit and slushy in it. :-) The room was full of joy. I remember the love that I felt from her friends that could have only come from the love they had from her.
Then she held a reception at their home after the big reception at the church, for all her friends that would have felt uncomfortable going to all the way to Santa Rosa! We were visiting with friends till after midnight. I remember again being amazed at the love these friends had for Sharon and Bill and their family.

After we were married she would call once a week to see how we were doing, and to get all the news. When she heard news of a baby on the way she started shopping and sewing! oh my! She made a baby basket, with several replaceable linings and matching sheets, blankets, pillows. She bought toys, clothes, and dolls and even the babies crib. They came to us that first Christmas in several oversized UPS boxes.
And so begins her years of spoiling her children and grandchildren through magnanomous support and donations to UPS. :-) We love you Sharon!
